Invest in You, Part 6: Disabilities

Making your life work for you really is the only way to achieve goals and make lasting change.
Let’s get real – we only have one life, one body and one shot at this. We never get to relive a day or an hour or a moment.

Once it’s gone it’s gone for good, and personally I don’t want to spend my time stressing about how I look, being unhappy, having no energy, or putting things off until I’m “perfect”.

Nor do I want to spend my time eating lettuce leaves and turning down every social invitation that might interfere with my healthy regime.

By making small, positive additions to your life, you’ll start to make better choices for yourself, become stronger and more resolute about what is important to you, and be the you that you deserve to be and want to be.

I gave you a couple of tips last week to add into your lifestyle and I’d love to know how many of you gave them a try.

If you didn’t, don’t fret. Many people feel they have such a mountain to climb – such big goals to reach – that little things are a waste of time.

I hear you. It’s not wrong to feel this way, especially if you’ve tried lots of things before and you never seem to get anywhere.

What I want you to know is that it really is the little things that make for great changes!

These little things will get you feeling great, loving yourself and having the energy and vitality you need.

Why? Because when you do something consistently, no matter how small, it will become part of your lifestyle.

Soon you’ll be doing it without even thinking about it, and you’ll start to experience the consequences of that action.

Take a little thing like drinking more water. When you start to do this regularly, you’ll see how the snowball effect kicks in.

You’ll slowly rehydrate your body, your energy levels will improve, your skin will become clear, you’ll think better, you’ll be less irritable, you’ll snack less, and you’ll manage your body shape more easily.

If you don’t believe me that’s OK – but just try it and see, and let me know what happens.

Here are some little things to try this week:

EAT BREAKFAST (PREFERABLY HIGH-PROTEIN AND LOW-GI)

I know you’ve heard this before, but do you know why eating breakfast is imperative to feeling good and looking great?

Eating breakfast will reduce your cravings throughout the day and help you make better food choices.

It will stimulate your body and help you burn more calories.

It will improve concentration, focus and attention. In fact, multiple studies on employee productivity and children’s attention patterns have demonstrated that a high-protein breakfast impacts on energy and productivity levels way into the late afternoon.

It will make you feel better and be happier.

TRY MY LAUGH ABDOMINAL ACTIVATOR

Many of us want to tone up our mid-sections, or have lower back pain that just won’t go away.

These problems are often caused by a lazy tummy. Simply put, we’re not using the muscles the way we should.

Some people try to improve this area by doing loads of crunches or abdominal exercises, which are often too challenging for an area that has been asleep or inactive for such a long time.

Try this for seven days to start activating your stomach muscles and feel the difference.

Lying on the floor or in bed (this is great to do first thing in the morning as it turns everything on for the rest of the day), place your hands over your lower abdominals (just below your belly button).

Now laugh. You’ll feel your lower abdominal muscles come on – this is what you want to activate.

Once you know where they are, try to pulse on and off 30 to 40 times, keeping the rest of you as still as possible.

It’s simple, but damn effective.

How are your little lifestyle changes going?
